The Snail and the Whale - Friday's Storytime

Hello Yellow Class - Happy Friday!!!!

Hope you're all okay and had a good first week at home? I know things are so different for you all at the moment. I'm sure you've all been keeping busy and finding lots of fun things to do.

I hope you're enjoying the stories. I try to imagine you're all sat in front of me on the carpet in Yellow Class as I'm reading them. It's not quite the same without you I have to be honest, my phone isn't sat there smiling back at me the way all of you do.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

I'll be back on Monday with another story to share with you.

Until then, stay safe and have fun!

Love Mrs L xxxxx

P.S. Dylan and Evie's  flapjacks were delicious!!!!

Fun at home

It is lovely to see children enjoying learning at home. Thank you so much for these pictures, we miss you all!! Please keep sending these in!

Playdough Recipe

Good Morning,

Over the years I have made lots of play dough so I thought I'd share my favourite recipe with you. There are lots of recipes out there but I find warming it up on the hob makes it last for ages and rarely goes wrong.
This recipe is from the website: https://www.thebestideasforkids.com/playdough-recipe/

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar (you can buy big tubs from Sainsbury's)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • food coloring

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all of your dry ingredients (flour, salt, cream of tartar) and mix well.
    Dry Ingredients Playdough
  • Mix food coloring with your water first. Then add the vegetable oil and water with food coloring to a large pot. Mix together.
  • Add the dry ingredients to your pot and mix well.
Mix Dry Ingredients with Wet for Playdough
  • Cook over low to medium heat until the dough starts to form and becomes dry.
  • Once it starts to form a ball together and looks fully cooked, take off the heat. Let the dough cool first before touching.
  • Once cool, knead the dough for 5 minutes to make the dough soft.
Have fun!

Maths Challenge!

During the last week of school we were exploring patterns in Maths. Therefore, for your first challenge to have a go at over the holidays can you try and make a repeated pattern?

You could use small parts including; natural objects, lego, playdough, buttons, teddies or counters. Encourage your Child to say the pattern aloud as this helps them to identify the parts which repeat and continue the pattern. You could explore colour, shape and size.  Start off with having two parts to repeat  then progress on to 3 or 4 parts to repeat. Feel free to send photos of your creations to our emails via the school email address.

Extension:
Give your Child a pattern to complete – Can you figure out the rule and continue the pattern?

Good Afternoon Pink Class

Hello Pink Class

This is a very difficult and somewhat scary situation we have found ourselves in, we really hope that you are all OK and safe at home with your family. We are missing you all terribly, it is very strange in school without you all here. It is far too quite!!!

As we approach the Easter Holidays we urge you to use this time to have as much fun as possible with your family. Get out in the garden and play games in the sun, build dens, dig for mini-beasts, read stories, could you set a trap for the Easter Bunny?

After the Easter Holidays we will be uploading regular home learning tasks linked to our Knowledge Organiser and Curriculum Maps, so please look out for these. We would also love to see the learning you do at home and share this with your classmates.

For now, be safe, have fun and we will be in touch soon.

Good Afternoon Nursery

Good Afternoon to all our Nursery children

I hope you are all doing well and keeping safe with your family at home. We are missing you all and cant wait until we can see you all again. It has been a pleasure to watch how far you have all come, in such a short time and we only wish that we could be with you to continue this journey.

We have no idea how long this awful situation will last for, but we want you to know that all the staff at Beighton are still here to support you. We will be posting regular updates with suggested home learning tasks so please watch out for these. We also cant wait to see what exciting things you have been doing at home and share these on our blog.

For now, enjoy the Easter Holidays, be safe and enjoy spending time with your family.

Nursery Team xx

Hi Green Class!

Hello Green Class!

I hope you are all having a great week at home with your families. It has felt really strange not to see all of your smiling, happy faces in school this week. I miss you all!

After the Easter holidays we will be posting weekly learning activities for you to all have a go at at home. In the mean time, remember to take a look at the home learning section on the school website and complete any of the activities you like the look of. You could do this with your grown up or have a go by yourself. Also practice reading and writing your key words and enjoy reading your books to your family.

I would love to see what you are getting up to and to help us keep in touch you can e-mail school using the address: enquiries@beighton.sheffield.sch.uk
In the subject line type 'FAO Mrs Gill' and your message will get sent straight over to me by the lovely ladies in our school office.

Here are a few of the things Joe, Grace and I have been doing over the past few days:

We have been spending a lot of time in the garden, playing in the beautiful sunshine.

We also went to a large open space for a game of football.

We made some Easter buns that tasted delicious!

I look forward to hearing all about the fun you have been having at home. Enjoy your Easter holiday and I will post on the blog again soon.

Love Mrs Gill xxx

Learning Ideas

Good Morning Orange Class!

I hope you have been enjoying your week at home so far, and that you are keeping safe and happy with your families.

Over the coming weeks I would love to know what you are up to at home! To help us keep in touch you are able to e-mail school using the address: enquiries@beighton.sheffield.sch.uk with the subject line as 'FAO Miss Cowell'. That way, I'll be able to get your messages and any pictures that you'd like to send to me!

After the Easter holidays we will be posting weekly learning activities for you to have a go at at home. In the mean time, don't forget to look at the home learning section and have a go at any activities that you'd like - I'd love to see pictures or hear about what you get up to!

Below I have also included lots of different websites and apps that you and your adults at home may be interested in. Some of them you will recognise games such as Hit the Button (Let me know your highest score - I can still keep a Merit list 😄) and some might be brand new! Enjoy exploring with your adult and make the most of this time at home! I'm sure you will have the chance to experience new things that we may not always have time for in the classroom, and that in itself is so valuable!

I look forward to hearing from you all and I'll post on here again soon!

I know you looked at some of Pete Mckee's artwork, one of you mentioned to me about him earlier in the term. I thought you might like to have a go at these!!!!

Bore da Yellow Class,

I thought you might like to listen to one of my favourite versions of 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' following on from yesterday's story-time. It's sung by Eva Cassidy, I've played you some of her music before in class. I really hope you enjoy listening.

I'll be posting the daily story a little bit later!!!

Bye for now,

Mrs L x

Wednesday 25 March 2020

Hello from Miss Hannon

Good Morning Purple Class,

I hope you are all doing well and keeping happy and safe with your families at home. You have been a wonderful class so far this year and I miss you all very much. However, I'm looking forward to hearing about all your adventures and stories about how you are keeping busy at home! I will be posting fun learning opportunities for you here every Monday to keep your inquisitive minds buzzing. I hope you enjoy them and are able to share some of your learning with us. Remember to have fun, use your imagination and learn through play!

Below are some pictures taken from our recent trip to Canon Hall Farm and some snaps from our last week of school.

See you soon, Miss Hannon

Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Wednesday's Story Time

Especially for you my lovely Yellow Class xxxx
After having time to come to terms with this awful situation we find ourselves in, I would just like to take this opportunity to say how proud I am of all our reception children this year. I know I speak for all the reception team when I say how frustrating it is, that we can not all be together to continue what has been an incredible year of learning so far.

As we did not have chance to hold our parent consultations it is important for you to know that it has been an absolute pleasure teaching Lilac Class this year. They are an amazing bunch of children who are a credit to you and the school. In two terms I have watched the children flourish and grow in confidence, their enthusiasm and attitude to learning has supported them in making incredible progress and I am so sorry that I do not get to continue to witness this everyday.

I have added a number of photos for you to share with the children showing their last week at school. It was a wonderful week and we were so lucky that we managed to get out on our visit.

I know that all  children will continue to show this eagerness to learn whether this is at school or at home. We want to help with this as much as possible so please keep checking back for updates and make use of our home learning page.

We have no idea how long this situation will last, but hopefully we will see you all again soon.

Miss Beaumont
