Resources for Mental Health Awareness Week

 Parents & Carers

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week.  This is an area we constantly give lots of attention to in school (in an age appropriate way), particularly over the course of the pandemic.

Below links to a nice resource with some suggested activities that you and your child may like to do together at home.

The theme for this year's Mental Health Awareness Week is nature.

Healthy Minds Champions

This year we have been involved in the Sheffield Healthy Minds Project.  Part of this project involves recruiting a team of 'Healthy Minds Champions' to work together to find ways to improve the support for emotional well-being across school.

We asked for children to send in their application, explaining why they were interested in becoming a Healthy Mind Champion.  We were so impressed with the creative videos, songs, posters and poems, where children explained how they would help others keep a healthy mind and stay happy and positive.

Due to so many applications from children so keen to help others we had to go to an election process.  Children voted for the classmate that impressed them the most.

Here are the children that received the most votes to make up our team of Beighton Healthy Minds Champions.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2021

Over the past two weeks we have been talking about Fairtrade Fortnight and what Fairtrade is and why it is important.

Fairtrade Fortnight is an event that happens every year where lots of people from schools, businesses and other places come together to show their support for the farmers and workers in developing countries who grow our food, drinks and grow the cotton in our clothes. Sadly, farmers in other countries are often underpaid and exploited.

Exploited means making someone work in an unfair way to make more money. Farmers in developing countries work extremely hard to produce our food and they get very little money for what they do. The food then gets shipped over to our country and sold in markets and supermarkets at a higher cost.

Do you think this is fair or unfair?

How can we support farmers in developing countries in a fair way?

By choosing to buy Fairtrade products, you are helping to improve the lives of many families and this is fairer for everyone!

Here are some pictures of our Nursery and Year 1 children supporting Fairtrade!

Science Day 2021

Wow have had such a fantastic Science day! We have taken part in so many experiments, watched lots of reactions take place, observed over time, recorded results and had great discussions! It has been great to see such enthusiasm from the children both in school and learning at home via zoom or pictures sent in. The buzz of excitement has been so lovely to see.

Vocabulary Day

Thank you for all your creativity on our Vocabulary Day! We had a wonderful time, explaining and using our words throughout the day. The children were so proud and could all explain the meaning of their words and use them in a sentence. There was a really excited buzz around the school and, as always, we are vey grateful for all your support.

Woodland Adventures

This week our Reception children went on an adventure to the local woods. They made us extremely proud, keeping themselves safe and displaying excellent behaviour. They had a fantastic time working in teams to build homes for woodland animals and engaging in storytelling for our story 'One Snowy Night'. This was a fantastic learning opportunity for the children and they were all inspired to continue this learning back in school.

Well done Reception!
