Welcome Back

We have had a busy day starting our new topic: Sheffield.

In English we learnt about:
* Where is Sheffield?
* What Sheffield is like?
* What is Sheffield famous for?
* What can we do in Sheffield?

What are your favourite things to do in Sheffield?

Here are some things which might be useful for at home.

Look what came to visit us!

We had a super time last Thursday when the London Bus came to visit us. It was just like the one we read about in the story of the "Naughty Bus" We loved having a look inside and seeing what it was like!
Have a lovely half term!

Our last week - have a great half term!

Wow, what an amazing, busy last week we had! We spent the last week celebrating Chinese New Year! In English we learnt about the Chinese New Year traditional tale. We discovered that the story was about animals that raced each other to win the Chinese Emperors' favour and also the honour of having the next year named after them! The children really enjoyed learning about this story - ask them who won the race in the end! You can also find out whose animal year it was when your child was born, together!

For our topic lesson, we have been discovering more about Chinese culture by trying some of their traditional food. The children got to try noodles and prawn crackers, then then they used Rainbow Talk to describe the food. We had some fabulous ideas about what the food looks like!

Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day as it is also known. We had ready made pancakes and the children got to choose a filling. They were very excited to choose from fresh fruits, sauces and the more traditional option of squeezed lemon!

I hope you have a lovely relaxing time during the holiday, returning refreshed and ready for a new half term!

Focus of the week

Our number of the week will be 8 and we will be revisiting the letters 'm' and 'a'.

We would really like for your child(ren) to bring in items which begin with these letters or draw a picture of the objects or number 8.

Have a super holiday and see you in a week.

From The Nursery Team

Half Term 4

Next half term we will be studying lots of different countries for our Topic 'Around the World'. We will focus on China in the first week back and would like your child to try writing some numerals and some numbers in Chinese.

The 'Naughty Bus' visited us!

We had such a fun time exploring the Naughty Bus yesterday. We explored both upstairs and downstairs thinking about the possible journeys the bus had made. We talked about our favourite part of the story that we have been reading in Nursery - The Naughty Bus!
"I liked it when the bus made a mess and went through the beans".
"I liked the bit when he went to sleep...but then his lights came on because he was a night bus too".

We liked singing 'The wheels on the bus' when we were sat on the bus and we pressed the bell to get off at the next stop!
Some children enjoyed looking at the features of a bus.
"You get on at the back".

We shared the journeys that our Naughty Buses had been on over the last week. Some had been very naughty indeed!

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays, have a super week. Remember to stay safe and have fun.

Visiting the old London Bus

The children had an exciting time visiting the old London bus in the school playground today. They enjoyed exploring the bottom and top deck of the bus and thinking about how buses look today and how they looked in the past.

We had a great time pretending to go on different journeys and singing along the way! Mrs. Fyfe even read us our afternoon story on the bus, which was called "The Naughty Bus". This was all about a mischievous toy bus that got into all kinds of trouble whilst on it's adventures!

See if your child can remember what number bus came to visit and perhaps draw or paint a picture of the bus over the half term holiday and bring it in to show us.

Many thanks,
Mrs. Fyfe

Chinese Dancing

As part of Chinese new year, we were lucky enough to take part in a Chinese dance workshop. The children loved trying all the different moves and using their umbrellas to the music. Well done Yellow Class!

Pancake day!

Blue class designed and created their own pancake toppings!
As you can see, they enjoyed eating them!
We used our senses to see what

we could smell, taste, feel and see.

Money, Money, Money

This week in Maths we are learning about money. We have used money to buy an item from the shop.

What coins could you use to make 10p?

Chinese New Year

This week we are celebrating Chinese New Year. We have read the story, found out lots of information and watched the parade.
We are enjoying tasting Chinese food too.

Can you tell your adult something about Chinese New Year? Maybe why red is a popular colour?

Breakfast Club - Smoothie Bike

Last week we had the use of a Smoothie Bike in our Breakfast Club. It was so much fun peddling to create our own smoothies. Here are just a few of the children who popped in to have a go...

Chinese New Year!

We thoroughly enjoyed learning our Chinese dance! We learnt different movements and then performed to the rest of the class. Thank you again for your support with this activity.

Chinese Dancing

Green Class took part in a Chinese Dance Worksop.
We had great fun!

On Friday 16th February it will be The Chinese New Year.  Each new year is named after an animal.  The animals in order are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.  On Friday it will be the year of the Dog.

Chinese Dancing

Today we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to do some Chinese dancing. We had to dance with umbrellas and share with our partners. There were lots of steps to remember, but we all tried our best and helped each other.

"I thought the swaying was kind of hard" - Lucas

"I found it hard to hold the umbrella up and walk on our tiptoes" - Archie

"I liked the tiptoe part because it was fun and funny!" - Lilia

"It was so fun!" - Isobel

"I liked the part where we had to spin the umbrellas" - Louis

"I liked when we spun the umbrellas in front of us" - Jacob

What was your favourite part?
