Brilliant, Buzzy Bees!

This week we were lucky enough to get a visit from an 'Apiarist' (Bee Keeper). We learnt all about how to look after bees and why they are so important for our World. We asked lots of questions and found out that bees pollinate around a third of our food. We also got to look at the bees honey and even try some. It was delicious!

Magic Maths

This week we have been doing lots of 'popping back' to previous learning and we have enjoyed building our knowledge. At home we would love you to ask us for a number in between two numbers of your choice or explain how many tens and ones are in your number in order for us to guess.

We also want to continue building our knowledge on our 2,3,5 and 10 times tables and would love for you to help us at home!

Earth Day 2021!

Last week we celebrated Earth Day at Beighton Nursery Infant School. Earth Day is a great way to learn about how our actions can affect the planet and the environment in which we live.

For example, we took part in a big class litter pick to make sure our school grounds were kept clean and tidy. We have learnt that litter is harmful for our environment and the animals in it.

During our litter pick we also learnt about the importance of recycling and how we can sort the litter into different recycling bins. We had two recycling centre managers, Eleanor and Harley who made sure the litter was put into the correct bins.

After the litter pick some of the children thought of some great ideas when taking part in some activities! Tyga said "we could reuse some of the litter!" and Conor said "we could use less plastic!" It made us really sad that the litter could end up in the ocean and harm the wonderful sea creatures.

After Earth Day we received a letter from Mrs Reid our headteacher, and she wanted to know if we could help her think of some ways to protect our planet. Not only did we take part in a super litter pick, we wrote her a letter back to explain what we could do.

Well done Red Class. What a brilliant day we had!

Recorder lessons!

Today we used our recorders for the first time in our music lesson.

We had to sit up straight and relax our bodies, and then we took some big deep breaths in and then we blew into our recorder as we breathed out trying to make a long, smooth sound.

We love our music lessons with Kate!

Bee Day

Pink Class really enjoyed seeing the bees on Friday. The bee keepers were really friendly and told us lost of information about the bees. Did you know the queen bee lays 20,000 eggs a day. Bees also pollinate lots of flowers every day.

Here are some pictures of our amazing day.

Active maths!

In maths last week we were consolidating our counting skills by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

We loved taking part in a creative and active maths lesson outdoors where we used chalks and created a hopskotch to count forwards and backwards!

We also enjoyed sound counting into jars with a partner! You could try these activities at home too.

Earth Day

Blue Class had a fantastic time learning about Earth Day!

We learnt about the impact that litter can have on our environment and in our oceans.

We learnt about how long plastic can take to decompose and the importance of recycling.

We even had a go at picking up our own litter safely and we then sorted it into the correct recycling bins!

Earth Day

In Nursery we have really enjoyed learning about ways we can help our Planet.

We have been on a Spring walk and used our senses to look, listen and smell for signs of Spring. We saw the green leaves, the blossom on the trees, we heard chicks tweeting and we saw birds flying in the sky, carrying worms for their chicks.

We have made our own cress head pots and planted the seeds to let them grow.

We have planted flower seeds in the Nursery flower beds and we can't wait to see them start to grow into colourful flowers.

We have been checking our Bug Hotel to see if any minibeasts have started to live there.

Potato Planting

Today in Green class, as part of our Science learning, we have enjoyed planting potatoes. We 'chit' the potato seeds before the Easter holidays and today we have followed instructions to plant them. Over the next 6 weeks we will observe the potatoes and watch how they grow. We will be learning all about how to look after plants and what they need to grow successfully. Hopefully we will have a bumper harvest of potatoes very soon.

Earth Day!

Yesterday was Earth Day and the whole school celebrated the Earth! We learnt all about our carbon footprint and discussed what commitments we could make to help the Earth. You might spot some of these on our window!

Earth Day

Pink Class have really enjoyed Earth Day. They have learnt how Bee's pollinate flowers, where Bee's live and how Bee's make honey.
Here are some pictures of our wonderful day.
