Material Detectives!

As Detectives, we decided that we needed hats to wear as our disguise. Because we have been looking at materials in Science we thought that we could test different materials to see which one would make the best waterproof hat!

First we made a list of the different materials and equipment we would need to make our hats. We then each made a hat, choosing our own materials. Some of us made felt hats, some of us made plastic hats and some of us made tissue paper hats! After that, we made some predictions, and we each voted for the material that we thought would be waterproof. It was a close call between plastic and felt, so we couldn't wait to get testing!

We tried to make sure that we conducted a fair test by pouring the same amount of water over each hat.

As you can see, Freddy the Teddy was kind enough to agree to the testing... although he wasn't very happy by the end!

We found that plastic is a waterproof material because the water ran off the hat, however felt, cloth and tissue are not waterproof as the water soaked through and poor Freddy got a little bit wet!

Can you find any other materials which are waterproof?
