The Great Kapok Tree

We have been reading the story of The Great Kapok Tree which is about a man in the rainforest  who wants to cut down the trees but the animals persuade him why it is important to save them.
We are writing our own setting description this week to describe the Amazon rainforest.

Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy is an artist and an environmentalist. He makes sculptures out of nature and natural materials. He also takes photographs of art in nature. We have been in Forest School making different patterns with leaves, stones, sticks and bark.

Measuring in Maths!

This week in maths we have been measuring length and height. We have been using non-standard and standard units on measure.

First we measured objects around the classroom using non standard units of measure.

Then we moved onto using a ruler and measuring in cm. We also put strips of paper in order from the shortest to the longest.

Can you use a ruler at home to measure the length of different objects in you house?

Measuring

In Maths this week we are learning about measurement. We have had a go at using objects to measure ourselves and things around the classroom. It was so much fun! We had to make sure there were no gaps and that our measuring was straight. We also checked it started at one end of the object and finished exactly at the other end. Tomorrow we are moving on to using rulers.

Recipe Writing!

Over the last couple of days we have been presenting our amazing recipe writing. The children have been taking their time, holding their pencils properly and sitting smartly on their chair to ensure that their writing is the best it can be! Here are a few examples of our work! We hope you enjoyed your biscuits.
