P.E

This term we are lucky enough to have a coach come in to teach us P.E on Thursdays. We have been learning more about balancing, moving around in different ways and using apparatus. We are really enjoying it!

The Minpins

We have been reading The Minpins and have found out that the Minpins are little and have to wear suction boots. We wrote commands that they may say:

  • Stay away from the Spittler because it might eat you!
  • Come and see my room.
  • Don't go down the tree because it is dangerous!

Maths

In Maths we have been adding using our understanding of tens and ones. We have partitioned the numbers into tens and ones first which has helped us to draw our 'sticks and dots'.
Have a go at these number sentences.
36+22=
45+21=
46+23=

P.E

Green Class have had a great time in P.E today. We have been working with Andy, a P.E specialist. The children have been travelling using different methods and working with a partner to imitate a range of approaches to travelling. We travelled by twisting, crawling, hopping and sliding. Can you think of any different ways to travel at home?

Beighton Walk Trip

We had a great time spotting human and physical features of Beighton today. We loved filling in our activity sheet during our trip and liked the responsibility of our very own explorers clipboard! Lots of us were very interested in the church and also the shops we have in Beighton. Can you remember what other human and physical features we saw? What did you notice about the old and new houses in Beighton?

DT

In DT we have been getting very excited about the plans for Gullivers Valley! This half term we are going to design our own attractions for the theme park. Today we thought carefully about the different rides and the way that they move. It was a great opportunity to recap our learning of verbs!

We acted out the different verbs and then thought carefully about what movement we would like our ride to do. We even added some adverbs to describe how our ride moves.

Some of our ideas included...
'My ride will soar sharply and float slowly.' - Will
'My ride will float calmly.' - Harry
'My ride will float smoothly and slip calmly.' - Emily
'My ride will twist sharply and float lightly.' - Henry

Microhabitats

On Monday we spent our Science lesson learning all about microhabitats. We went into Forest School to see what microhabitats we could find and to find out what lives there.

We found a variety of minibeasts living under rocks, in piles of leaves and in the flower beds.

We tallied our findings and found that woodlouse was the most popular minibeast!

Have you come across a microhabitat out of school?
What animals did you find living there?

Verbs

In English we have been identifying verbs. We acted our lots of verbs and then used these to create our own sentences.

Billy in the Woods

On Tuesday as part of our Parent Workshop, we went down to the woods. When we first arrived we read more of our story Billy and The Minpins. We then completed different activities in response to the story. We imagined what Billy could hear, how he might stay say safe, who and what he ind find in the woods. Here we are exploring in preparation for our  story writing.

Super Senses

This week in Science we explored using our five senses.

We listened to musical instruments.

We felt different objects, some were soft and some were rough.

We smelled different foods.

We even tasted different foods. We discovered that food can taste sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

Can you remember the 5 senses?

Parent Workshop

On Tuesday all of Y2 went to the woods to do various different activities based on the book we are currently reading in English. This book is called "The Minpins" by Roald Dahl. We first listened to a part of the story while having our snack.
Then we drew a map of the forest to help Billy find his way from the creatures in the forest.
We drew what we thought the creature might look like!
We went on a mini-beast hunt and found loads of different insects!
We finally built a safe place for Billy to hide away from any creature by making a den!
Thank you to everyone who took we had a great day!

Parent Workshop

We had a fantastic morning in Beighton Woods where we took part in lots of different activities related to our English learning. We imagined we were Billy from 'The Minpins' by Roald Dahl when we were completing each activity.

First we collected some interesting objects that we thought Billy might come across and we looked carefully to see what creatures live in the woodland.

Then we worked as Teamwork Trolls to create a safe hiding place for Billy. We made some amazing dens!

Finally we drew a map of the woods to help us find our way and we used our observation skills to draw what we could see.

Thank you to all of the parents who joined us, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
What do you think will happen next in the story, now that Billy has found the tree? Comment below with your ideas!

Senses

We have been exploring our senses this week and have loved travelling around the senses stations in our classroom before labelling our senses in our books. We talked about what things tasted, felt, smelt and sounded like using adjectives. It was so much fun! There are more pictures in our presentation book.

Super Learning!

The children have been learning about the language and punctuation in the story 'Brown, Bear, Brown Bear.'  The children have written questions to ask Brown Bear.

We went outside with view finders and asked our partner to describe what we could see and hear.
We then wrote our own version of the Brown Bear rhyming story.

We used adjectives to describe what we saw such as
'I saw a green leaf on the tree.'

What did you see?  Can you use an adjective in your sentence?

Green Class

Welcome to Green Class Blog

The children have had a busy first two weeks learning the new routines in Y1.  We are so proud to see that they are ready to learn and are trying so hard to be their best!   We are looking forward to doing lots of fun learning together this year!

The children have taken home a 'Home School Learning Pack'.  The pack contains their key words, reading book and record, weekly 'Big Maths Facts' for you to see their score and phonics sound information.  If you could return the pack each day in their book bag please so we can continue to add to this.

If you were unable to attend the Parents' Meeting a copy of the handout is in your child's book bag.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to speak to us.

Outside Learning

Today we made the most of the sunny September weather and took our Geography lesson outside. We have been learning all about our school and our local area using maps and aerial photographs. We ventured out into the playground to make observations and sketch the different features around us.

We then came back inside to create our own aerial maps of our school and its surroundings, using what we had found.
We can't wait to share the finished product with you!

Comment below with your favourite part of our school. Remember to use the conjunction 'because' to tell me why.

Perfect Partitioning

In Maths we have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones. We have been using dienes to help us.

We have also used bar models to help us.

Can you have a go at partitioning these numbers into tens and ones?

Exciting English

This week in English we have been sorting words into adjectives and verbs.

We have also been looking at the difference between a statement and a question.

Today we went into forest schools to help us think of our own adjectives to describe our surroundings.
