Easter Holidays!
What a jam packed term we have had in Yellow Class! We have created some absolutely amazing writing, been mathematicians, artists, actors, and even scientists!
The new homework bingo boards, vocabulary mats and key words for next half term will be sent home in book bags today.
Can you practise your 3,2,5 and 10 times tables from any number during half term too?
Happy Easter and have a lovely two weeks!

Emergency Services Museum
Our trip to the museum was fantastic. We saw lots of different 'People Who Help Us' and lots of old and new vehicles.
What did you enjoy the most?
Red Nose Day
For Red Nose Day we made biscuits. We spoke about what Red Nose Day is and why we are raising money.
Can you remember why we all wore red to school that day?
World Book Day
World Book Day 2019!!
Well done, everybody looked fab.
Thank you for your efforts, it was a great day.
Outdoor Play
Inspired by our visit from Firefighter Bingham, we became firefighters in our outdoor area. We drove the fire engine and put out a fire.
Firefighter Visit
We were very lucky to have a visit from Firefighter Bingham.
He spoke to use about his job role and how he helps people.
Can you remember what else he does along with putting out fires?
Emergency Vehicles
We have used different materials to make emergency vehicles.
Can you name any emergency vehicles that you have seen on the road?
People Who Help Us
We started off our topic by dressing as a 'Person Who Helps Us'
Who did you dress as and what is their role?

A special visit from a Scientist!
Lilac class were very lucky to have a special visit from one of our parents Amy who is a microbiologist.
The children were so interested to find out what a microbiologist does and how they look carefully at bacteria, viruses and microbes that are invisible to the eye.
The children got to carry out their own experiment where the placed their hands inside an agar plate. Amy will take these plates to her laboratory and see what bacteria we have on our hands and send us some photos to examine.
We also carried out a second experiment where we made our own gas to blow up a balloon. Can you remember what 3 ingredients we used?
Many thanks to Amy for giving up her time to come and work with us. We really appreciate it!
First Aid
In Year 1 we have been lucky enough to take part in a Mini First Aid course this half term. Each week we learn about what we should do if we come across different injuries or situations ranging from bumps, burns, cuts and bleeding.
This week we learnt about how to help someone who is choking. We learnt about the important questions you should ask, and we had a go at the different actions we should take, including pats on the back and abdominal thrusts.

Making Music
In DT we have been busy designing, making and evaluating our own musical instruments! We thought carefully about what sounds they would make and how we could play them. We used lots of different materials such as cardboard, plastic, paper and rubber bands.
We were given a brief, and we had to make sure that we could tick everything off. Once we finished them we completed an evaluation, thinking carefully about how we could improve them and what we liked best. What did you like best about your instrument? What would you do differently next time?

Police Visit
We had a special visit today from Police Officers.
They spoke to us about how to keep safe and what to do in an emergency. We got to try on uniform, look at equipment and get in the van with the sirens and lights flashing. It was lots of fun.
Can you remember any of the equipment the police officers carried?
Emergency Services Museum
We had a fantastic time yesterday on our school trip. The children were fantastic and we learnt lots about our topic.
What was your favourite part?
Can you remember the number to call in an emergency?
Medicine Museum
What a treat we had at the Medicine Museum! It was truly exciting from beginning to end and we learnt so much about how medicine has changed. One of our favourite moments was on the Victorian Street when we learnt about the terrible conditions people lived in. It was very smelly in there and we would not want to sleep in their straw beds. We also found out about our bodies and how to keep healthy. Thank you again for supporting us in our learning and for all of the adults that came with us.
How to Save Mr Grinling's Lunch!
This week Blue Class have read 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'.
We felt really sorry for Mr Grinling who kept having his lunch pinched by mischievous seagulls.
Blue Class came up with lots of different ways we could keep the basket safe as it travelled down the wire to the lighthouse.
We covered it in elastic bands so that the seagulls would bounce off.
We covered it in cello tape to stop the seagulls from pecking at the food.
We even used fake food, but then we realised that Mr Grinling would still be hungry!
We tested out lots of different ideas including writing letters and covering the basket in lots of different materials but we decided that the rubber bands worked the best!
Can you think of any other ideas to keep Mr Grinling's lunch safe?
Super Science Week
Last week it was Science Week.
Blue Class completed a range of experiments!
Firstly, we left celery in food colouring to find out how plants absorb water and where the water will travel to.
Next, we planted our own seeds and we learnt about what plants need to help them to grow.
Lastly we used bicarbonate of soda, washing up liquid and lemon juice to create a fizzing lemon. This helped us to learn about chemical reactions.
Which experiment is your favourite?
