Getting ready for Christmas

The children have been very excited preparing for Christmas. We have been practising our nativity, which we will be performing next week!

The children have enjoyed making their own baubles to hang on our class Christmas tree.

We had fun making lots of decorations and glittery paper chains to decorate our class room.

We have also designed and sewn our own Christmas stockings during Open Door sessions. Thank you so much to all the grown ups who stayed to help us.

We set up a Santa's workshop and wrapped up presents to give to our friends. We worked hard to write our gift tags.

We loved wearing our Christmas jumpers and eating our Christmas dinner together.

We read the story of the nativity and used the internet to find out what Frankincense and Myrrh is. Can you remember what we found out?

WE LOVE BOOKS!

Most Fridays we visit the library and we love to get cosy to read a good book! "We choose books that are interesting and funny". We enjoy sharing our books with our friends and can't wait to see what our reading corner will look like during our new topic 'Frozen Planet'.

Christmas Jumper Day

We are well and truly in the Christmas spirit today wearing our Christmas jumpers and having our Christmas dinner together.

How are you going to celebrate Christmas this year?

Superhero Vocabulary

We are really excited for our new topic Heroes and Villains!

Below is the subject vocabulary which we will send out in homework books before the Christmas holidays.

We can't wait to find out what your superpower is!

Superheroes and Villains

Our topic next half term is Superheroes and Villains.

It would be a fantastic idea to start sharing some stories and comics at home to help immerse the children in the topic.

Christmas Stockings

Thank you so much to our adults for helping at open door to create our stockings.

First we designed them, then we chose our fabric and cut out our template, then we sewed the two pieces of fabric together and lastly we decorated. It has been wonderful to see the children take responsibility and ownership over their work.

The stockings will be coming home soon ready to add to your Christmas decorations.

What would you like in your stocking?

Christmas Performance

We are well underway with rehearsing for our Christmas Performance. Please spend some time rehearsing your lines and the songs at home. We have been working on projecting our voices and making sure our facial expressions reflect what our line means.

An email will be sent out very shortly regarding costumes and other information.

Thank you,

Miss Cross

In Green Class we have been doing lots of activities to learn our key words!

What activities have you been trying out at home?

Christmas Performance

We have started practising for our Christmas Performance. Please spend time at home rehearsing your lines, reading them without your script and with expression. An email will be going out shortly with costumes and other information.

We cannot wait to perform to you!

Grouping Information

To help us to write our own information booklets about chocolate, we grouped lots of facts. We decided what information they were trying to tell us and then created a subheading for each group. This has helped us to plan our own information booklet.

Healthy Living

We had a visitor in Turquoise Class who came to talk to us about being healthy. We investigated how to brush our teeth properly, what food we should eat, how much water we should drink and the different muscles in our bodies. Did you know you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day?

Number fact of the week...

This weeks number fact for Year 1 has been 2+2=4

Ask the children to tell you about the fact.

Keywords everywhere!

Red Class are always working hard to learn important keywords.

Which ones can you read and spell? Comment below.

Stick man

The children have been having so much fun learning all about Stick man and his adventures!

They have really enjoyed collecting natural materials and making their very own stick men.

The children have also been busy building warm, cosy homes for when Stick man returns and describing what they have made.

Some children have been writing sentences describing how stick man was feeling when he was lost and so far away from home.

The children have also been using stick men to help them to add two numbers together to find the total.

Can you tell your grown up all about the Stick man story? What happens to Stick man and how does the story end?

It's Christmas!

This week, Pink Class have been making their own baubles to put on our very own Christmas tree. They even had a go at threading the ribbon and attaching it to the tree themselves! Here is a sneak peek at what we have done so far...

Tell your adult what makes Christmas special to you!

Exploring Ice

We have enjoyed exploring melting and breaking ice
to set all the arctic animals and sticks free.

We talked about what we could see, hear, feel and smell and shared our ideas with our friends.

Can you tell your adults why ice melts and how we might be able to stop this from happening?

Addition

Last week, we practised adding two numbers together using lots of different objects around the classroom to help us, including sticks, wooden blocks and gems. Some of us even had a go at writing the number sentence in our books!

We used actions to help us remember what add and equal signs look like - can you show your adults?
