  • a person
  • a place

Puppet Shows

We have loved creating our finger puppets and puppet theatres. We are going this afternoon to show the Reception children and we think they are going to love our shows.
Here are some of our finger puppets.

Forest School Fun

In Green Class we have been working hard to plan our setting description that we will write next week. Today we have been in the forest school area getting some inspiration for our writing. We worked hard to think about what we could see, hear, touch and smell. We came up with some fantastic descriptions containing powerful adjectives!

Comment below with a sentence about what you can see, hear, touch or smell in a forest. See if you can include a powerful adjective to make your writing even better!

Objects

We have been finding items in the classroom that are hard and soft, some of the things might have been from the Three Bears Cottage.

Can you find things at home that are hard and soft?

Reading

This week we have been reading words, we have been practising saying each sound in the word before trying to blend it them together. We have been matching words to pictures and finding initial sounds in words.

Challenge - Can you read these words to your adult:

frog
help
belt
can
top
dog

Ordering by size

This week in Maths we have been looking at size. We have used language around size to describe different objects.

We have ordered a range of things by size including children in our class, bears and towers in the construction.

Challenge - Can you order 5 things by size at home?
Bring in a photo to share with the class.

Blue Class Creations

We have had a very creative week in Blue Class this week.

In Science we have been learning about the structure of plants. We made our own diagram of a flower and then labeled the different parts.

Can you find the:
  • stem
  • leaves
  • petals
  • roots
  • seeds

In art we have been learning about an artist named Leonid Afremov who paints landscapes in his own style, using multi-coloured dots.

This week we created our own forest pictures using iPads.

Forest Art Work

This week we have been learning about the artist Leonid Afremov in our Art lessons. We looked at some of his paintings and described them using powerful adjectives. We used words such as 'beautiful', 'colourful' and 'vibrant'. His work then inspired us to create our own forest art work using the iPads.

Can you think of some amazing adjectives to describe our work?

Drawing inspired by a famous artist

This week, Red Class have been using the Ipads, to create their own forest pictures. They were completely inspired by 'Leonid Afremov'. Leon uses a huge range of bright colours in all of his paintings, thus inspiring us to make our own colourful trees.

Making sense of sentence writing!

We are learning about how words combine to make sentences in Year 1.

We know what sentences need to make sense!

Comment below with your ideas of what a sentence needs...

HINT: They always start with a capital letter and finish with a full stop.

Labeling the parts of a plant

Red Class had so much fun learning about the parts of a flower yesterday.

Look at these fantastic flowers they have made!

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Lilac Class were shocked to see that Goldilocks had broken into the Three Bears Cottage.
She must have been hungry.  She left an awful mess!
Can you remember what she took?

Lilac Class wrote to Goldilocks inviting her to visit them.
Much to our surprise Goldilocks knocked on our door!
Goldilocks told the children that she was sorry.
She asked them to help her write a letter to the three bears to say she was sorry and that she wouldn't do it again!

And the 'Bake Off' has begun...

Today we found a letter from the Gingerbread Man.  He had left us a recipe to make some more gingerbread people.  We followed the recipe and all helped to make them.  And none of them escaped from the oven either!
We will keep a close eye on them over the next few days and will decorate them Thursday when parents and carers are invited in to help us.  We cant wait!
